London Fashion Week's Eco Highlights

London Fashion Week is a whirlwind tour of exhibitions, parties and catwalk shows. Today we put our favourite moments from February 2010 in the spotlight for your very own fast track tour of what's hot in the world of eco fashion!

Vauxhall Fashion Scout - Prophetik's Runaway Success

If you read our interview with Jeff Garner last year, then you'll know he's quite a character! Once in the music industry, he moved into the world of eco fashion eight years ago, and while his passion for sustainable fashion is palpable, and his clothes eclectic and wearable, Garner has struggled with the catwalk. Not any more! Prophetik's debut on Vauxhall Fashion Scout's catwalk was a triumph, which silenced the critics once and for all. He even got the nod from Vogue.co.uk. To get the full report, read our Prophetik catwalk report on our eco fashion site, SustainyourStyle.com.

Ada Zanditon's 'Echolocation' Collection

Like you, we love a great story, and we were over the moon with Ada Zanditon's fall collection, 'Echolocation'. Marrying fashion with conservation, Zanditon's artfully executed collection portrays the plight of bats, as these flying mammals are suffering serious conservation issues. Zanditon, cerebral and passionate, along with being touted as one of the eco fashion world's up and coming designers, pulled off a stunning catwalk show at the close of Vauxhall Fashion Scout. Alexander McQueen, who Ada interned with, would have been proud. Click the link to read our full Echolocation 'Batwalk' Report.

Favourite Pioneer - Junky Styling

We've long admired Junky Styling for putting upcycling on the map. We adore their unique approach to styles - who would thought old mens suits could be deconstructed and made into an insanely stylish collection. And this oh so clever label produces one successful collection after another. But it wasn't until we read their 'Wardrobe Surgery' book (highly recommended!), that we fully appreciated the colourful struggle and triumphs this eco label has experienced. So finally getting to meet and chat with Annika Sanders, one half of this creative duo, was definitely a big highlight for The GIN Lady.

Henrietta Ludgate is a Scottish luxury womenswear label drawing inspiration from Elsa Schiaparelli, and likewise, views fashion as a type of architecture. Sculptural silhouettes are a signature look for this talented young designer. To create this look, Ludgate uses the highest quality fabrics, sourced from Scottish mills and her luxury line is all made in the enchanted highlands, which is also the name for her Autumn/Winter collection on show at Estethica this season. We adore the blend of nature, its seasons and hues in her upcoming collection and one we can't get out of our minds, for its sheer beauty and inspired fashion forward look and feel. Made In Britain - Tara Starlet

We love to support UK Plc and this is the optimum time to praise Tara Starlet, the vintage inspired fashion brand made locally in London - as they say, to "keep our carbon footprint dainty!". To bring out the starlet in you, you'll be charmed by their 1940s and '50s inspired clothing, many of which are very nostalgic of the war time era. In their recycled dresses and trousers, you can really imagine dancing the night away or looking effortlessly cool during the day. We were very taken by their fetching collection, and felt ever so proud to be British to see Tara Starlet among the green fashion collective showing at Estethica this season. Why not visit TaraStarlet.com to get your very own pin-up look!

Best International Newcomer - MAXJENNY

We were totally blown away by Copenhagen-based MAXJENNY, the brainchild of Max Forslund, a former furniture and product designer. Max has taken the outerwear concept to a whole new level with her colourful street sculpture collection. Made from recycled PET fabric, and working with either a circle or square piece of fabric as its base, MAXJENNY has created an outstanding outerwear collection to don outside to keep off the chill and rain in fabulous style. Forget the ubiquitous trench we say and get a MAXJENNY. So enthralled we were, we dedicated a feature to this stunning up and coming international label on SustainyourStyle.com.

The GIN Lady wearing her favourite hat!

It was Sarah Ratty from Ciel who we first heard raving about Pachacuti, the Fair Trade destination for clothing and accessories, including hats - from panamas to felt hats. As a member of the International Fair Trade Association (IFAT), Pachacuti supports producer groups throughout the Andes and provide artisans through Fair Trade principals. The GIN Lady recently bought a Red Felt hat from Ascension's London Store, a stockist of Pachacuti, and you can also buy their hats directly on their gorgeous new online store. As The GIN Lady wore her Red Felt Hat at Estethica and had a lovely little chat with Carry Somers, the lady behind Pachacuti, this Fair Trade label just had to make it into our LFW highlights! Visit Pachacuti to learn more.

Best Eco Fashionista Event - EFF at The Hospital Club

The party was jam-packed with eco fashionistas to celebrate the fabulous Ethical Fashion Forum (EFF do cracking work to support the ethical fashion designers) in partnership with The Hospital Club. Unlike last season's catwalk show, this creative lot came up with another brilliant idea - The Designers Dress Up Closet. Rather than a traditional catwalk format, the EFF went all interactive on us, giving their guests the chance to wear the designers' wares. The Ethical Fashion Photo Booth also transformed the guests, giving them the chance to be photographed by Craig Thomas, a professional fashion photographer. Design labels on show and getting donned included My Only One for THTC, MIA, Beautiful Soul, Julia Smith and Henrietta Ludgate.
